Caylar village…
You will walk along mediaeval alleys, caussenarde houses, you will follow historic and botanical pathways, up to the Notre-Dame chapel, partially constructed in a rock, where you will discover the 14th century restored altar piece made of multi-coloured stone and 15th century mutilated Christ.
You will meet potters, leather craftsmen (motorcycle seats, blacksmiths,...).
The Cliff Mansion
Refuge for man since stone-age, the limestone cliff "Le Roc Castel" located between the Foot of Escalette and St. Baudille overlooks the village from the height of 752 m.
The curious walker will find many explanatory signs on a succession of dolomitic rocks that he will see while climbing.
These concretions, arising from action of rains, du gel et des vents,
frost and winds evoke a ghost city up to the peak.
Once on top of the Cliff, most of the plateau of Larzac
will open up to you, it is said that in clear weather
the sea and the Pyrenees silhouette on the horizon…
